Father Bob Maguire: Battle on to save popular priest

24 Oct, 2011 12:00 AM
THE fight to save Father Bob Maguire from retirement has stepped up a notch, with the popular priest prompting fans to get online.

The famed priest at the Catholic Parish of Sts Peter and Paul South Melbourne is due to step down from his post next February, when he reaches the church's mandatory retirement age of 75.

Fr Bob's supporters are now relying on the electronic worlds of Twitter and Facebook to plead with Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart to keep the priest on the payroll.

Our very best wishes to you Father Bob. Here in Qld, we seem to be the third world country due to lack of wonderful men like yourself. There is hardly anyone at the Seminary, the people that we do get are of another culture and the parishoners have trouble understanding them. Years ago the Parish Priest would talk after Mass, and if they had time might visit the elderly at home, Good luck Father.
