Bottomline: A head for a good story

Bottomline: A head for a good story

BOTTOMLINE returns briefly to tell you the strange tale of a skateboarder threatened with a huge fine for "riding without a helmet".

He was fined $61 for simply riding. For the record, Legal Aid states helmets are not compulsory for skaters. It's also legal for skaters to be on roads with speed limits under 50km/h, like every backstreet and a lot of big shopping strips.

Perhaps it's an overzealous approach to a crackdown across the inner-city on jaywalking and cyclists flouting road rules (see opposite page), but to our ears it was unprecedented.
