Description:
A Yiddish performance that you can understand!
For the first time in Australia a Yiddish performance with simultaneous translation via sur-titles - you would think you were at the Opera!
“Zaftik” - (“juicy and voluptuous”) is a Yiddish theatre troupe created by
(Evelyn Krape (Australian Performing Group – Pram Factory), Tomi Kalinski (Hot Bagels, Musical Director to Barry Humphries), Elisa Gray (Barry Kosky’s Gilgul Theatre))
who have devised “Ek Velt”, a roller-coaster journey through the lives and histories of leading actors/directors of the Australian Yiddish theatre, which uses a number of theatrical genres and traditions, including comedy, tragedy, song, dance and dramatic ‘recitations’.
“Ek Velt” traces the history of Jews, Yiddish life and theatre in Australia. Personified for the first time on stage will be some of the greatest Yiddish actors of Europe and the world, who arrived in “Ek Velt” and made their brilliant contributions to the evolution of Yiddish theatre.
“Ek Velt” is performed mainly in Yiddish, with overhead English surtitles, in order to embrace all theatre lovers, not only those who understand Yiddish.
Performances are almost every night, including a matinee on the weekend.
